Stone Condition:
the stone is broken into at least three pieces, with parts of the epitaph missing; the surface is in fair to good condition, with the surviving lines partly legible
Conservation:
The stone fragment was extracted along with about two dozen others in April 2014 from under a garden on vul. Ivan Franko in central Rohatyn, where others had been removed in a prior year. The excavation was arranged by Mykhailo Vorobets and carried out by Rohatyn city workers. The stones were first moved to the vodokanal facility in the north part of Rohatyn, where they were viewed and photographed by RJH in July. Mr. Vorobets later arranged to have the stones moved to the old Jewish cemetery in spring 2015.

Other Notes:
Hoshana Rabbah is the seventh day of Sukkot and the 21st day of Tishrei.
Where names or other data are derived from records and not from the headstone itself, a double dagger (‡) symbol is appended to indicate the separate origin of the information.
This stone likely belongs to Majer Schleicher, a merchant of Rohatyn reported as died on 21 October 1902 at age 56 in Rohatyn, with his death confirmed by examination one day later (the 22nd) by Dr. Terlecki, and his burial in Rohatyn two days after his death (the 23rd). AGAD record 300/0/3689 volume IV, sheet 63 line 119.
Further research would be required to learn whether Majer Schleicher was the husband of Chana Schleicher, or if there is another connection to her.
