Stone Condition:
the marble face with epitaph is shattered but mostly intact
Conservation:
This headstone and more than a hundred others were recovered from under the asphalt paving of vul. Hanna Barvinok southwest of the Lviv city center over several days in June 2018, in a volunteer event organized by the Sholem Aleichem Jewish Cultural Society of Lviv and the Lviv Volunteer Center. The stones were then moved to the new Jewish cemetery adjacent to the Yanivskyi Cemetery northwest of the city center, from which they were likely originally stolen during the German occupation of World War II.

Other Notes:
the face of the stone is a thin pink marble sheet engraved with the epitaph; the marble sheet is set into a limestone frame which forms the main body of the headstone
as the son of a Levite, it is possible that the symbol lost in the shattered upper part of the marble face would have been a water pitcher or washing hands
