[N1-2] Engraved in a semi-circle, this phrase appears in the top section of the gravestone, confirming the Levite motif. It paraphrases several similar biblical verses that list the tasks of the Levites in the Temple. A winged-lion grasps the lidded jug or laver. The פ נ abbreviation also appears here rather than with the subsequent text, of which only the first line has survived.
