Recovered from a walkway behind the house at vul. Adama Mitskevycha 8 in downtown Dobromyl in March 2016, then installed in a newly-constructed Wall of Memory at the Dobromyl Jewish cemetery in May and June 2016; see the web page About Dobromyl for more information.

[N2] הלך לתומו – literally 'went about his way innocently, minding his own business'.
[N3] The shamash שמש is a 'beadle', responsible for looking after the technical side of a synagogue's operation. The word שמש may also be interpreted as a verb – 'he served in the synagogue'. Therefore, the term is transliterated but not translated.
[N3] The abbreviation 'דבי'המ stands for דבית המדרש 'of the synagogue'.
[N4] דפה 'of here' – 'of this place'. The second half of this line, naming the place, is missing. The next line has the honorific מוה'ר centered above the name Avraham, which doesn't look as though it has missing text to its left and therefore probably also not to its right. Thus, it appears that the two stone fragments were originally more-widely spaced than the join between the two fragments, in order to accommodate whatever was inscribed after דפה and perhaps even more text on now lost further line/s. For the record, it might be that these fragments come from entirely-different gravestones.
[N7] The 'extended' honorific בן מורנו הרב ורבנו רבי – במהור'ר defies translation... 'son of our Teacher, the Rabbi, our Rabbi, Rabbi'. Here, to lend extra weight, it appears as 'acclaimed Rabbi'.
[N8] The 3-letter abbreviation לפ'ק stands for לפרט קטן 'by the small count'. It often appears as a ligature, whereby these letters coalesce to form a single symbol. It confirms that the numeral 5 for 5000 is absent, it being obvious; a gravestone would have to predate the civil year 1239/40 for it to belong to the previous Jewish millennium.
